FORVIA’s system, unique in its ability to onboard up to 9kg of hydrogen, includes up to five second-generation composite carbon fiber tanks. These tanks offer a more affordable and sustainable solution through enhanced manufacturing processes and reduced material use.

“This new generation of hydrogen storage systems for light commercial vehicles is a turning point,” said Yves Dumoulin, Senior Vice-President Hydrogen Solutions at FORVIA. “We are proud to be the only supplier of the best-in-class zero emission van the only player currently in production worldwide for mobility applications. With four plants dedicated to mass production, we are delivering these advanced solutions at scale. In 2023, we successfully delivered 11,000 H2 tanks to our customers for mobility applications. Achieving this while improving the sustainability and affordability of these systems is a significant milestone for us.”

Greater storage capacity and flexibility

Designed for light commercial vehicles, FORVIA’s system includes valves and up to five tanks, with a tailored shape fitting conveniently under the van’s floor. This design maximizes hydrogen storage capacity and offers flexibility with optional side tanks. This will help meet the needs of light commercial vehicles with daily intensive use, including high daily mileage, payload requirements and optimized downtime.

More affordable and sustainable systems

Produced at FORVIA’s Allenjoie plant in Eastern France, the second-generation tanks are more sustainable, reducing CO2e footprint by 10% per kilogram of hydrogen and integrating less carbon fiber and a carbon fiber with a lower CO2 footprint. With a new high-capacity line, FORVIA is speeding up production times, improving quality, and making the process more flexible reducing production costs fivefold and enabling a more affordable solution.  In 2023, FORVIA delivered 11,000 hydrogen tanks, establishing itself as the leading global supplier.

The hydrogen storage system for the New Renault Master H2-Tech will be showcased at IAA Transportation in Hannover on Sept 16-22. Meet FORVIA teams at Booth A30 Hall 12.
