Scaling up hydrogen mobility

A pioneer in fuel cell stacks and hydrogen storage solutions for mobility, distribution, transport, and stationary applications, FORVIA is at the heart of a range of projects and partnerships accelerating hydrogen mobility on a global scale.
Type IV M composite tank
FORVIA Faurecia

Type IV small & medium composite tanks

Made of a carbon fiber composite structure to withstand high pressures and a thermoplastic liner impermeable to small hydrogen molecules, FORVIA type IV tanks are designed, produced and tested in-house. These light-weight high-pressure tanks are well suited for light and commercial vehicles (35 or 70 MPa).
XL
FORVIA Faurecia

XL Type IV composite Tank

The FORVIA XL composite tank is a very large 70MPa high-pressure Type IV tank, and a key enabler of extended autonomy range for trucks . It can be installed in a wheelbase or cabin module. Leveraging its simulation expertise, FORVIA developed a product that offers maximized storage capacity and short refueling time under 15 min with optimal safety.
Full Cell

Fuel cell stack systems

Symbio’s broad portfolio of hydrogen-powered fuel cell systems meet all performance, durability and range requirements for sustainable and competitive on-road and off-road mobility. Symbio, an equal-share joint venture between Forvia, Michelin and Stellantis, combines industrial and technological leadership with innovation excellence to design and manufacture pre-integrated and pre-validated systems, based on Proton Exchange Membrane technology. In 2023 Symbio opened the largest integrated Gigafactory for fuel cells in Europe.
Liquid hydrogen tank
FORVIA Faurecia

Cryogenic tanks

FORVIA is developing Liquid hydrogen tanks to upgrade vehicle autonomy and compactness. This hydrogen storage technology is particularly adapted to intensive usage and will allow to reach a large autonomy of 1,000 km range milestone. Together with Air Liquide, our partner in this development, we will bring a cost-effective solution for heavy-duty vehicles.
Vertical
FORVIA Faurecia

Vertical storage system

Since 2021, FORVIA has supplied complete vertical storage systems delivered as pre-tested plug & play modules for quick and safe in-vehicle integration. These systems are pre-assembled in a frame and are composed of several type IV tanks as well as auxiliaries, piping and sensors. These vertical systems are suitable for installation behind the cabin of the vehicle and adaptable to 35 or 70 MPa pressure level.
Horizontal
FORVIA Faurecia

Horizontal storage system

FORVIA is a pioneer in complete Type IV horizontal tank storage systems installed under the floor of light vehicles, for optimized payload, available space and autonomy. Pre-assembled in a frame composed of auxiliaries, piping, sensors and several tanks designed and homologated for a pressure of 70 MPa, these systems can be easily and safely mounted in the vehicle.

MEGC (Multi Element Gas Container)

Based on its range of high-pressure carbon fiber composite tanks and system expertise, FORVIA provides type III and type IV composite tanks which are suitable for modular high-capacity storages. This lightweight solution drastically lowers the operating costs and CO2 footprint related to hydrogen transportation.
Combined
FORVIA Faurecia

Combined storage system

To maximize the quantity of hydrogen on board and increase the vehicle autonomy, FORVIA designs and develops complex and tailored storage systems that can combine a vertical storage system installed behind the cabin module and one or more XL type IV composite tanks. Drawing on our expertise in simulation, these systems are designed for short refueling times with optimal safety.
Multi
FORVIA Faurecia

Multi cavity tank system

To reduce the price of flat storage systems, and in accordance with phase 2 of the R134 regulation, FORVIA is developing a multi-cavity 70MPa hydrogen tank system that can be easily and safely installed under the floor and maximizes the quantity of hydrogen stored. This system made up of several tanks mounted in parallel and connected to one single on-tank-valve is homologated and delivered as a plug & play module.
Type III composite tank
FORVIA Faurecia

Type III composite tanks

Since 2010, FORVIA has designed and produced high pressure hydrogen Type III tanks for 35 or 70 MPa automotive applications. These cylindrical vessels composed of a lightweight carbon fiber composite structure and a metallic liner with high thermal conductivity are well adapted for refilling stations not equipped with a precooling system.
