Intelligent systems for even safer experiences

ADAS are a series of safety systems relying on a set of automated sensors such as radars, lidar, and cameras. These advanced systems ensure that drivers and automated driving functions are making the right decisions, keeping the road safer for all users.

Detect the environment

Visibility becomes all the more important at night or when facing challenging weather conditions. Combining state-of-the-art cameras with other sensing technologies, drivers gain a 360-degree view of their environment with our vision systems.

Analyze data

Leveraging FORVIA’s advanced software expertise, our systems ensure video processing in real time. Certain technologies are powered by artificial intelligence to detect and alert drivers to obstacles or risk factors, from blind spots and lane keeping to moving object detection.

Set in motion

… Or come to the perfect stop. Our scalable range of assisted parking solutions aid drivers in low-speed maneuvers for perpendicular, parallel, front or reverse parking.

Synchronize actions

Our scalable range of parking assistance solutions harness the power of image processing, data fusion from cameras and ultrasonic sensors as well as vehicle control algorithms to detect obstacles and operate the vehicle’s steering, accelerating and braking. These aid drivers in low-speed maneuvers for perpendicular, parallel, front or reverse parking.

Laying the groundwork for tomorrow’s autonomous vehicle

Level 1

Shared Control

Driver assistance

In Level 1 autonomy, the vehicle is equipped with a single system that assists the driver with steering, braking, or accelerating. The driver remains in full control of the vehicle.

Examples:

  • Driving assistance, such as adaptive cruise control, or
  • Lane centering assistance
Level 2

Eyes on, Hands off

Partial automation

Level 2 is characterized by the interactions of several systems that take over multiple functions from the driver, and can do so simultaneously. The driver remains at the wheel, constantly supervising these support features.

Examples:

  • Driving assistance, such as adaptive cruise control, and
  • Lane centering assistance
Level 3

Eyes off

Conditional automation

In Level 3 autonomy, the vehicle can handle driving tasks under specific conditions. However, the driver must be ready to take control when requested.
Examples

  • Traffic jam chauffeur
Level 4

Mind off

High automation

Like Level 3, Level 4 features allow the vehicle to handle all driving tasks under specific conditions (such as defined or geofenced areas). Unlike Level 3, Level 4 autonomous driving does not require a human to intervene.

Examples

  • Local driverless taxi
Level 5

Full autonomous

Full automation

With Level 5 features, the vehicle can drive everywhere, in all conditions – no driver necessary. All driving tasks are handled by the vehicle.

Examples:

  • Driverless cars that can move anywhere

Our industry-leading expertise

A pioneer in radar development

For over two decades, FORVIA HELLA has built out our radar sensor portfolio to meet the evolving demands of autonomous driving. We remain a leader in the market, with over €9 million in sales of our state-of-the-art radars in 2023.

Continuous innovation for safer driving

Today, our teams are working to streamline our ADAS technology while maintaining the highest levels of performance. This includes improving the precision of our sensor radars, a more robust and financially accessible alternative to laser technologies.

Our featured technologies

Enhanced rear vision

The key role of cameras

Being at the heart of e-mirrors, cameras are key to capture vehicle rear surrounding and enable its enhancement using different software algorithms. Compared to a traditional rear view mirror, e-mirrors are able to improve visibility during night time or under fog as well as detect overtaking vulnerable road users and warn the vehicle occupants to prevent dooring. Additional innovation combines the rear view camera with the e-mirror to delete all blind spots and add more safety on the road.

The power of radar

Powerful detection in any condition

Among the technologies used to provide vehicle surrounding perception, the radar is one of the most prominent. Being located behind bumpers and other decorative elements, each radar detects all the objects in its field of view (up to 300m away) and reports their distance, speed and direction. What makes a radar the best companion to the camera are its abilities to keep its performance regardless of the weather or the time of the day.
