Hydrogen for Zero-Emission Mobility

FORVIA sees hydrogen as a key solution to decarbonize transportation and mobility for energy intensive usages. To meet this need, we are developing a range of hydrogen storage solutions designed to fit different types of vehicles, such as Forklifts, Buses, Trucks, and Light Commercial Vehicles. These solutions focus on reliability, easy integration, and longer driving ranges and are powertrain agnostic, fitting to both H2 ICE vehicles and fuel-cell electric vehicles.

Our commitment to hydrogen technology is reflected in the 70,000 hydrogen tanks we supplied since 2016 to our customers. To support this growing demand, we’ve established production facilities in South Korea, China, and France, with a new site underway in North America. We’re also advancing liquid hydrogen storage technologies, for a longer-term market introduction.

FORVIA is also a key partner in Symbio, an equal-share joint venture with Michelin and Stellantis. As a frontrunner in zero-emission hydrogen mobility, Symbio designs and develops a complete range of fuel cells among the most compact on the market, compliant with the strictest automotive standards. With this partnership, we cover 75% of the hydrogen mobility value chain, from fuel cells to storage systems.

Sustainable Lighting

FORVIA HELLA is rethinking vehicle lighting to support sustainability. At IAA Transportation 2024, we introduced a new Aerodynamic Headlamp concept and an innovative Roof Marker Light. These designs give vehicles a distinctive look and help improve fuel efficiency by reducing aerodynamic drag.

We also presented the Future Trailer Lighting System, which uses digital technology to reduce wiring and material use, making vehicles lighter and more efficient. This system includes automated lighting functions and real-time monitoring to maintain consistent, reliable performance.

Electric Vehicle Technologies

In addition to hydrogen, we are developing advanced solutions for electric and hybrid vehicles. Our portfolio features high-efficiency energy and thermal management systems, including coolant control hubs, compact battery chargers, and lightweight battery management systems. These technologies improve vehicle efficiency and help streamline production.

Sustainability Goals and Challenges

Hydrogen technologies, sustainable lighting, and electric vehicle solutions are integral to our strategy for achieving net-zero emissions by 2045.
For hydrogen-powered vehicles, expanding refueling infrastructure and lowering production costs are critical to making adoption more viable at scale. In the electric vehicle sector, improving battery performance and sourcing sustainable materials are essential to meet growing demand while minimizing environmental impact.
To address these challenges, we collaborate with industry partners, invest in research and development, and engage in policy discussions. These combined efforts support the broader transition toward sustainable mobility and contribute to the automotive industry’s path to a zero-emission future.
